Turboden is a global leader in the development of the Organic Rankine Cycle technology, manufacturing ORC units since 1980. 

Currently there are over 250 Turboden plants installed in 30 countries worldwide. 

02. AVAILABILITY & RELIABILITY

With a track record of 98% average operating time, Turboden units offer unparalleled levels of availability and electricity generation per installed capacity (MWh/MW).  

Maintenance requirements are extremely low both in terms of time and cost. Planned maintenance occurs once a year, requires only two man-days and is typically scheduled during other equipment maintenance allowing for continuous plant availability. A broad range of maintenance packages offered by Turboden can further support reaching peak power plant reliability and availability and bring operating risk down to a minimum. 

Furthermore, Turboden units are specifically designed for long duration, with over-sized components and safe design margins and have consistently delivered very long operational life due to the characteristics of the working fluid, that unlike steam is non eroding and non corroding for valve seats tubing and turbine blades. 

Due to the use of a high molecular mass organic fluid instead of water, the ORC system offers superior performance and several mechanical advantages:

• Low turbine mechanical stress due to low peripheral speed
• Low turbine RPM, allowing the direct drive of the electric generator without gear reduction
• No erosion of blades thanks to the absence of moisture in the vapor nozzles

03. PERFORMANCE

Turboden units deliver an ORC-industry leading electric efficiency which in larger size units can reach 27%.

Due to in-house designed turbines, specifically selected fluids and heavy investment in R&D, Turboden offers top level performance with a turbine efficiency of up to 90%, an overall cycle efficiency of 98% and unparalleled flexibility at partial load maintaining 90% of the cycle efficiency at 50% load.

Turboden ORC units integrate cutting edge technology on turbine design and fluid dynamics.  

In housed designed turbines and comprehensive quality control systems in production and testing at Turboden’s production facility in Brescia are at the core of delivering state of the art technology.  

05. SIMPLICITY & EASE OF OPERATION

Turboden ORC plants are designed for automatic and continuous operation and can be operated even by unskilled personnel with weekly operation requirements as low as 3-5 hours (else unattended).

The operation of the ORC plant is fully automatic in normal operating conditions as well as in shut down procedures without any need of supervision personnel. In case of fault conditions, the ORC plant will be switched off automatically from the thermal oil circuit (which will be then by-passed) and from the electrical grid.

Turboden offers a wide range of after-sale services designed to reduce operating risk and maximize customer asset value through peak power plant reliability and availability.
