MALTEUROP POLAND | Biomass CHP Plant at malt production powered by VAS and Turboden

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Malteurop Group is the world’s leading malt producers with an annual production capacity of more than 2,200,000 tons. The Group is present in 13 countries in Europe, North America, Oceania and Asia, with 24 industrial sites.

For its malt production facility at Gdansk in Poland, Malteurop invested in a 6.5MWth biomass thermal oil plant by VAS to cover their process heat demand and power a Turboden 1,0 MWel ORC unit.

In order to cover the entire heat demand when the plant is operating at full capacity, VAS also installed the water thermal hydraulic including three heat accumulators (buffer storage) of  200m³ capacity each. A high developed concept on the control of water thermal hydraulic is managing the different heat requirements in malt production redirecting the produced heat into the buffers. The intelligent buffer system ensure that the biomass thermal oil plant can work on full capacity to run the ORC at 1,0MWel output even when there is no heat demand by main plant process.

The CHP plant Malteurop uses virgin wood chips from nearby forests, cleaned recycled wood and barley husk for the production process.
